Self-Defense for Women, Bedford Hills NY

Perfect for women of all ages. No previous experience needed!

Every woman has the right to walk through life feeling safe. Not just hoping nothing happens — actually knowing what to do if it does. You're walking your dog at Bedford Memorial Park. It's early, quiet, hardly anyone around. You're halfway through your route when footsteps pick up behind you. They match your pace. You speed up. So do they. You cut left down a side path. They follow.

How do you respond?

I don't paint this picture to fear monger. It doesn't bring me joy imaging a scenario where an innocent woman is violated. Or worse. I'm writing this because there's millions of women around the world who deeply desire to learn self-defense. But most never take the first step. Don't get me wrong. There's countless reasons why they might never do so:

  • Lack of access to resources

  • Insecurity

  • Fear

  • Disabilities

  • The list goes on

  • Not everyone is in a position to do so. I get it. I sympathize with that heavily. I really do. But as a woman, I strongly believe it is the most important skill one can learn.

What You'll Actually Walk Away Knowing

Krav Maga gives you an answer. Not a complicated one. Not one that takes years to be useful. A simple, instinctive response that your body can execute even when your brain is flooded with adrenaline and your hands are shaking.

That's what separates it from everything else. Boxing is great. Jiu-jitsu is great. But both assume a level of physical preparation and time investment that most women — most people — don't have. Krav Maga strips away the learning curve and gets to the part that matters: what do you do when someone grabs you?

You'll work on wrist releases, bear hug escapes, choke defense, ground defense. How to get back up when someone has you pinned. How to use your voice, your keys, the space around you. None of it requires strength or size. All of it is designed to work under pressure, when your fine motor skills have already gone out the window.

Most women who walk in here have never trained a day in their life. A lot of them are nervous. Most are surprised — not just by how fast they pick things up, but by how quickly something shifts in them outside of class. The way they walk to their car at night. The way they move through a parking garage. It's not paranoia. It's the opposite. It's the quiet confidence of knowing you're capable and truly empowered.

That's what we're here to give you. Because every woman shouldn't simply brush shrug their shoulders and brush off the question "So would you do if your safety was threatened?'

Black Belt Instructors

Krav Maga vs…

Let me be straight with you.

We teach Krav Maga. So yes, we have something to gain by recommending it. We are called Krav Maga New York after all.

Here's what you probably don't know: we also run kickboxing fitness classes and jiu-jitsu on Saturday mornings. We're not here to trash other martial arts. We train people in them.

Which is exactly why we can tell you this with a clear conscience — if you're a woman who wants to feel safe walking to her car, running alone, or handling an unexpected situation with a stranger, Krav Maga is where to start. Not because boxing and jiu-jitsu aren't valuable. They are. But they were built for different goals.

Kickboxing teaches you to fight someone standing in front of you, under rules, with gloves on. Jiu-jitsu teaches you to control someone on the ground in a one-on-one situation. Both take years before they're genuinely useful under real pressure.

Krav Maga was designed for none of those conditions. No rules. No controlled environment. No assuming your attacker fights fair.

It pulls the most effective pieces from every art — strikes from boxing and muay thai, takedowns from wrestling and judo, ground work from jiu-jitsu — and adds what none of them allow in training: groin strikes, eye gouges, whatever it takes. Because in a real situation, there is no referee deciding what's legal.

That's the difference. Not what gets added. What doesn't get left out.

Pair it with kickboxing or jiu-jitsu and you've got something genuinely well-rounded. A lot of our members do both and love it. But if you're only doing one? For self-defense? Krav Maga. That's our honest answer.
